What is a Giclee Print?

Giclee (pronounded “zhee-clay”) from the French IPA, is an invented name for the process of making high quality fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing.  The word Giclee, as a fine art term, has come to be associated with prints and printers using fade resistant “archival” inks (including solvent inks).  The printers use the CMYK color process with multiple cartridges for variations of each color,  which serves to increase the apparent resolution and color gamut, allowing smoother gradient transitions.  SGI giclee reproductions on canvas or fine art paper are guaranteed not to fade, yellow, or deteriorate.
